Position in Range
Definition
Position in range shows where a stock's current price sits between its low and high for a period, on a 0 to 100 scale: 0 is the low, 100 is the high.
Example
“The top name on the list showed a position in range of 94.8, so it was trading near its high of the day.”
Detailed Explanation
Position in range turns a price into context. A stock at 95 in its daily range is trading near its high of the day, which often means buyers are still in control; a stock at 10 is pressed against its low. Screeners and stock cards, including the Trade Ideas dashboard, show it for different windows, such as today, the past five days and the past year, so you can see whether a move is stretched or still building. It works best combined with relative volume: a stock holding near the top of its range on heavy volume is a different setup from one drifting there on thin trading. Position in range describes where price is, not where it goes next.
